There is disagreement about whether the Southern Strategy ever actually took place.
From the above linked article: "In American politics, the Southern strategy was a Republican Party electoral strategy to increase political support among white voters in the South by appealing to racism against African Americans."
Yet, many conservatives and Republicans contend that this never happened.
What evidence supports the idea that it happened and what evidence supports the idea that it didn't?
