Many say that Barr was on Trump's radar because of his sympathetic comments in the press about Trump and disparaging the Russia investigation. Trump liked what he heard so much that he originally wanted to hire Barr as private counsel to lead his defense in the Mueller case. Few attorneys wanted to represent Trump in the Russia investigation. Four of the highest-profile law firms out there declined the honor in 2017, and at least a dozen big-name lawyers had said no by April of 2018. Did Trump select Barr because he was willing to distort the facts for him, and help him to obstruct justice and/or cover up the facts after the investigation was completed?
